Officers from the Darien Police Department responded to Middlesex Middle School at 11:32 p.m. on Nov. 27, 2020, when a burglar alarm was activated inside the building.
Upon arrival, police said that the officers spotted two suspects on the second floor through a window who proceeded to walk down the hallway and out of sight.
The officers canvassed the area, but failed to locate anyone, though they found a broken window in one of the classrooms on the ground floor that purportedly was how the two gained access to the building
Police said that the school was able to obtain video of the two suspects, who were identified as teenage boys. Images of the two teens were later circulated to the public, which resulted in numerous suspects being named.
The investigation ultimately led police to identify Darien residents Charles Gedney, now 19, and Aiden Hills, now 18, as the probable suspects caught on the video.
Police said that in subsequent interviews, both Gedney and Hills admitted to being the two seen on the video and that they had entered the building that night. A warrant for both teens’ arrests was later sought and granted.
Hills turned himself in on Saturday, March 20, and Gedney did the same the following day.
Both were charged with second-degree criminal trespassing and released.
They are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 20.
